Depression can haunt anyone while at work questioning their own beliefs, or right after a traumatic event in one’s life. It’s a disease that doctors find difficult to treat because of its unquantifiable quality. While enrichment exercises and re-installing one’s purpose-of-being, depression treatments do not usually work or can be difficult to work with and guarantee proper results.

Today, light therapy has become effective for people with seasonal affective disorder. However, for PTSD patients, the results were quite mixed.

It is suggested that fluorescent light could work for major depressive disorder maybe even much better than medication.

A team had randomly selected 122 patients with major depression to one of several treatment groups. One group received fluorescent light therapy for about 30 minutes per day from a light box. Another group took SSRI medication or Prozac.

About 59 per cent of individuals who had both active treatments achieved immense remission from their depression. About 44 per cent of the participants using light therapy experienced remission while using a placebo pill.

About 30 percent of individuals receiving both placebo achieved remission from their depression.

The study may indicate that medication has no effect on patients as much as placebo treatments do but light therapy is something that could be better for the treatment of major depression.
